FALL TERM BEGINS AUGUST 26, 2010

The Annual National Piano Playing Auditions, a special program and added
incentive offered to piano students nationwide every year, is sponsored by the
American College of Musicians and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
Kehoe Music & Dance hosts the Auditions every SUMMER, usually at the end
of May. Barbara Kehoe chairs the Richmond Heights Center and
welcomes area teachers to enroll their pupils.
Pupils build a repertoire during the course of the year, which encourages both review
of pieces and memorization, essential to musical growth. Pupils then audition before a
judge to qualify for membership into the National Fraternity of Student Musicians.
A well-qualified judge will come to a Guild approved audition center and hear pupils
perform a prepared program. Each pupil will be given an appointed time, which may
require being excused from school. The National Guild Auditions are well known to
teachers and administrators and are generally considered a legitimate excuse to be absent.
Parents are advised that their children play only against a standard of excellence in the Auditions and not against each other. The Auditions afford an annual check-up under an outside examiner as an incentive to greater progress and encourage all pupils to study
longer through national recognition and awards for their achievements.
Auditions are private (pupil and judge only). Pupils are judged on individual merit, which includes accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style, and technique. Upon passing, pupils will receive a certificate,
a pin, and a complete evaluation!
